We are very pleased to announce that our Inter-branch and Inter-regional Competition will be held at a new venue for us, Dageraad Equestrian Estate on the N7, an easy drive on the freeway for most of our members.

There will be stabling available at the grounds, with overflow stabling if required in the area. Camping and evening events will take place at the well-equipped DKH Estate nearby, which we believe will add a different dimension to this year’s competition.

Please note the following: 

• Ground levy and stabling costs will be confirmed and the entry forms sent out before the weekend.
• Entries have to be in to DCs by 10 March and to the Regional Committee by 17 March. No late entries will be allowed.
• Members must be paid up on the day entries close.

• Please can members and parents study the rules and schedule carefully and raise any queries with the Branch DC as soon as possible so they can be addressed.

Huge thanks go to the members of the regional committee, who have put many hours of work into the arrangements so far – especially Rene van der Walt, Theresa Perotti and Ilse Sloane.

The Western Cape region has held its Annual General Meeting and elected a new committee. All branch district commissioners are part of this collective and work together to encourage branches and offer support. It is at branch level – and with active parent involvement – that the major work happens. The regional committee is also responsible for co-ordinating the annual inter-branch competition, maintaining testing standards and creating opportunity for inter-branch co-operation.

The committee for 2013 is as follows:

After the double disappointment of cancelled inter-branch events this year, it’s full steam ahead for a full three-day event to be held at Stellenbosch District Riding Club from 24 – 26 February 2012. There are also about 25 stables that can be used by horses and ponies for duration of the event.

Please diaries the dates. We hope to have the schedule available before the end of the year.

Evergreen Stables in Paarl will be hosting a five-day sleepover Pony Club test camp from Monday 2 January to Friday 6 January 2012. Members can take their own horses or ponies or contact Gloria Kilian about available mounts. Space is limited. Call (021) 868 2640 or 082 785 5868 to book.

There will also be a camp for A and B test candidates in KwaZulu-Natal from 18 to 23 December, which may be an option for members who will be competing at the national Junior Championships at Shongweni the week before.Branch DCs have the provisional information and can give interested members more details.

After the disappointing cancellation of our annual Inter-branch Competition in April, we are pleased that the dressage and equitation components will be held at the Constantia Valley Riding Club (CVRC) on Sunday, September 10. The deadline for members to get their entries in to their District Commissioners is 19 August.

Please note the following points:

Victor Ludorum trophies
No individual victor ludorum trophies will be awared this year due to the fact that all the disciplines are not going to be held at the same timem, and some riders will change age groups from this show to when and if we hold the jumping show. The Pony Club rule is that members who are 14 years old on the day of the event must compete as Juniors.

Dressage Classes
Classes 2, 4 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 & 18 should read Individual and Team.

Number of classes that may be entered
To avoid over-working horses and ponies, riders who only do the dressage may enter two classes. However, riders doing dressage and equitation may only do one dressage class and one equitation class. Riders entering one dressage and one equitation class, (and who are selected to be in a dressage branch team) must enter as an Individual in the respective Team class.

One of the highlights of the Pony Club calendar in the Western Cape is the annual Interbranch and inter-regional competition, which will be held at the Cape Hunt and Polo Club in Durbanville from 27 to 29 April 2011.

‘The competition encourages Pony Club spirit and we have classes that aimed at all levels to encourage members to try as many disciplines as they can,’ says Western Cape chairperson Gloria Kilian.

The programme includes dressage, showjumping and equitation, which are the three main disciplines for Pony Club, and also showing classes, mounted games and, for the first time this year, jumpkhana.

‘Jumpkhana is a mix of jumping and games,’ says Gloria Kilian. ‘This has proved very popular in the other regions and was ridden as a discipline in the International Pony Club Event held at Welkom many years ago.’

Pony Club members are asked to direct queries to their branch District Commissioners.
